  Background and aims: The present study was aimed at investigating job motivational potential level and job satisfaction among workers of automotive industries.

  Methods: In this Descriptive - analytical study, 150 workers of automotive industries at Tehran city werechosen by simple random sampling. Data collection tool were three questionnaires for demographic, Job Characteristics Model and job satisfaction information, which were filled up by the participants. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS (version 18.0)using descriptive statistics including t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), The correlation coefficient and factorial regression.

  Results: The results revealed that 83.3% of workers had low MPS (motivating potential score) and the MPS value for the remaining participants wasconsidered as moderate.Based on our results, 15.3%, 68.7% and 16% of respondents had low, moderate and high job satisfaction, respectively. There was a significant relationship between employees’ motivation and all related dimensions with their job satisfaction ) p<0.001). Further, it was revealed that the job variety was the most significantcharacteristic influencing the job satisfaction.

  Conclusion : Our results are in agreement with the literature which emphasesthe important role of management systems and policy makers implementing effective interventions to improve MPS and job satisfaction. Further research should be performed to find other factors influencing motivation and job satisfaction.
