Introduction: Occupational safety is one of the key components in maintaining employee health and increasing organizational productivity. However, observing safe behaviors in the workplace always faces various obstacles. The aim of this study was to identify and analyze the obstacles to safe behavior from the perspective of employees.
Methodology: This study was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method among 247 employees of 11 industrial units in Qazvin. Data were collected through a researcher-made questionnaire including individual, organizational, and social dimensions and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical methods.
Result: The results showed that the most important barriers to safe behavior included environmental barriers (respectively: noise (with an average score of 3.80 out of 5 possible scores) - inadequate ventilation - inadequate temperature - unpleasant odor - insufficient space - irregular environment - insufficient light - slippery ground) - variety of assigned job duties - large volume of assigned tasks - time limit for performing tasks - long work shifts, and the lowest average score was related to limitations in performing safe behavior due to congenital defects (with an average score of 1.36 out of 5 possible scores). Also, from examining the relationship between the independent variables examined and perceived barriers, it was determined that the barriers to safe behavior experienced by employees in state-owned companies were higher in evening and night shifts.
Discussion and Conclusion: Paying attention to employees' opinions and experiences regarding safety barriers plays an important role in the success of interventions to increase safety in the workplace. In this regard, according to the findings of this study, it is suggested that in designing interventions to improve safe behavior in the workplace, employers and health and workplace safety managers should shift their focus from providing knowledge and motivational information to adhere to safety recommendations to improving working conditions, including improving the physical conditions of the workplace and scheduling work shifts, modifying work processes, and adjusting job tasks, volume, and pace in consultation with employees. this regard, special attention should be paid to removing environmental barriers, especially in public companies,  in evening and night shifts, and employees with less than a high school education.
