Abstract
Introduction: Nurses, as the largest professional group in the healthcare system, face many stressful factors in the work environment that can affect their general health and quality of life. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of relating the quality of life to the mental health of nurses working in Qaem Shahr Asadabad city Hospital in the west of Iran.
Methodology: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, the research population included all the nurses working in Qaem hospital in Asadabad city in 2023-2024. A number of 150 nurses were included in the study according to the inclusion criteria using available sampling. Data collection tools were demographic characteristics questionnaire, quality of life questionnaire and general health questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analytical tests.
Findings: Based on the obtained results, the average score of mental health in nurses was 36.50 ± 8.68. The mean score of the subscale of physical symptoms was 9.51±2.76, anxiety 9.67±3.05, social dysfunction 9.83±3.09, and depression 7.49±2.82. Also, the average score of quality of life in nurses was 72.03 ± 9.18. The highest score of the quality-of-life subscale was related to the social health score of nurses 52.27 ± 13.15 and the lowest score related to the general health score of nurses was 49.33 ± 14.17. Also, based on the findings of the study, there was a significant negative relationship between mental health and quality of life and its subscales (p<0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this study show that there is a significant inverse relationship between nurses' general health and quality of life. The nurses had good quality of life and mental health. It is necessary for policy makers and health managers to design and adopt appropriate interventions for continuous monitoring of public health and nurses' quality of life.
